Every company has a few causes that hit close to home, and Living Beyond Breast Cancer – an incredible organization whose mission is to connect people with trusted breast cancer information, as well as a community of patients and caregivers – is certainly one of ours. Breast cancer has directly impacted members of our own Soma family and it’s our goal to bring awareness to a disease that touches so many lives each year. Since 2004, Soma and our sister brands Chicos and White House Black Market have donated nearly $7 million to LBBC.
Cathy Devine, our Vice President of Merchandising for bras, is not only a survivor herself but also a driving force behind our collection of post-surgical bras. Her story inspires our mission to help women Living Beyond Breast Cancer.
“This is a cause that is very near and dear to my heart. I will mark 17 years as a breast cancer survivor in November and feel very blessed. Breast cancer has touched too many of my family members including my grandmother, my mother, my aunt, my younger sister and even my great uncle – most of whom were diagnosed very young (as early as age 32!) because we carry the BRCA 1 genetic defect. I have participated in numerous fundraising efforts with the goal of helping other women who are afflicted, and to find a cure for breast cancer with the hope that my own daughters and all women will no longer have to feel this threat to their health. It’s so inspiring to me that Soma is supporting LBBC fundraising and awareness in the month of October. I’m also grateful to the LBBC members who participated in our focus groups that led to our decision to offer post surgical bras on soma.com and in select boutiques because at Soma we truly want every woman to feel like her most beautiful self. I’m overwhelmed every time I read a customer note expressing appreciation for her Soma post-surgical fit experience and how she feels feminine and gorgeous once again when she finds the right bra. We all deserve that!” – Cathy Devine
